Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about BOE Advance, a semester-long career development program within Northeastern’s Business of Entertainment Club.

BOE Advance is designed to give students the foundational tools, industry knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to break into the business of film, music, and media — all while becoming part of a close-knit entertainment community.

Through workshops, projects, guest speakers, and guided support, BOE Advance helps students build confidence, learn the language of the industry, and gain tangible experience they can carry into co-op recruiting and beyond.

About Us

BOE Advance is a guided cohort experience. Students learn the basics of the entertainment industry, build tangible projects, and grow their networks in a supportive, close-knit environment.

Through the program, selected students will:

• Learn foundational concepts and language used across the film, music, and media industries.
• Explore different career paths and how to enter them through co-ops and early roles.
• Gain hands-on experience through semester-long projects and collaborative challenges.
• Build tangible work they can showcase in applications and interviews.
• Connect with peers and industry professionals while becoming part of the BOE “family.”

Why BOE Advance?

We know that countless students at Northeastern are passionate about the entertainment industry but lack a clear path or a community of people who share that interest. It can be hard to find others who are equally invested, understand the industry, or are navigating similar career goals. BOE Advance was created to give students that missing space.

Our program is designed to give students real value:

• Community first – a small cohort of students who learn together, share opportunities, and build relationships that you can count on during college and after graduation.
• Foundational knowledge – learning how the entertainment industry actually works, from basic vocabulary to how different roles fit together
• Career preparation – support entering co-op recruiting, understanding how to network, and learning how to talk about your interests and experience
• Hands-on experience – semester-long projects and activities that give students something real to point to, not just something to talk about

Whether you’re majoring in business, media, engineering, or anything else, if you’re curious about entertainment, this program will help you gain clarity, confidence, and connections to launch your career.

Program Structure

BOE Advance runs from February 4th to April 8th, with weekly meetings on Wednesdays from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.

The program includes:

• Weekly workshops on industry basics, career prep, and guest speakers
• A semester-long project aligned with each student’s interests
• Additional hands-on activities and collaborative challenges
• Individual biweekly check-ins with a big buddy for guidance and project support
• Community events that help build connections within the cohort

This keeps the focus on learning, experience, and community while clearly explaining how support works.
